Happy new year to everyone in the Camrose area- from all of the staff at the Recycle with Centra Cam depot.

  • The holidays generate tonnes of waste, and some of that waste can be recycled. Please see our FAQ section below to see what you can drop off for recycling at the Camrose recycling depot and to reduce waste in the landfill. We accept many more items than you may think!

  • Unfortunately holiday wrapping paper or gift wrap are not items that we are able to accept.

Hours of operation


Most products are accepted in the drop-off bins that are open

24 hours per day/7 days per week


The Recycling Depot is staffed from

Monday to Saturday- 8 am to 4 pm

Data Destruction and Paper Shredding services are only available during staffed hours.

Drop-off hours:

Open 24 hours/day to the public for most drop-offs

Staff hours:

8 am - 4 pm Monday to Saturday for special drop-offs

Paper types that the depot accepts & does not accept expand to see more

Accepted: All products must be generally clean and free from any contamination)

  • Clean newspaper

  • Clean office paper

  • Clean shredded paper

  • Phone books

  • Shredded paper (clean and not mixed with anything else)

Not accepted:

  • We do not accept gift wrap, wrapping paper or gift bags

  • We do not accept used paper towel, tissues, Kleenex, or masks.

Cardboard types that the depot accepts & does not accept

Accepted: (All products must be generally clean and free from any contamination)

  • We accept clean cardboard that does not have a wax coating on it, but it must be dry!

Not accepted:

  • We do not accept cardboard with a wax coating on it.

  • Cardboard cannot be mixed with anything else and all food must be removed before dropping off cardboard.

  • Wet cardbaord is not accepted

Plastic types that the depot accepts & does not accept

Accepted: (All products must be generally clean and free from any contamination)

  • Plastic containers with the #1, #2, and # 5 symbols are accepted. Labels can remain on the item.

  • Plastic bags and film are also accepted.

Not accepted:

  • No other plastics other than the ones mentioned above will be accepted at the Recycle Depot.

  • Bubble wrap, including shipping envelopes

  • Stretch wrap film

Please look at the bottom of the plastic container that you wish to drop-off at the recycling depot and ensure that it has the #1, #2, or #5 in the recycling emblem embedded in the plastic. If this number cannot be found, or is a number other than 1, 2, or 5, then there is no market for the container and we cannot accept it.

Glass types that the depot accepts & does not accept

Accepted: (All products must be generally clean and not contaminated.)

  • All clear glass jars

Not accepted:

  • Window panes

  • Brown tinted bottles

  • Blue tinted bottles

  • Green tinted bottles

  • Lead crystal

  • Fragrance jars

  • Drinkware

  • Candle holders

  • Ceramic ware

  • Jars with difficult to remove lids/attachments


Battery types that the depot accepts & does not accept

Accepted: (All products must be generally clean and not contaminated.)

  • Car batteries (we don't pay you for these)

  • Household alkaline batteries (AAA, AA, C, D, 9 volt)

  • Rechargeable batteries

  • Lithium ion tool batteries

  • Hearing aid batteries

Not accepted:

  • Damaged, corroded, or leaking batteries of any kind

  • We accept most battery types

Used Oil container types that the depot accepts & does not accept

Accepted: (All products must be generally clean and not contaminated.)

  • We accept empty containers that originally contained motor or vegetable oil

Not accepted:

  • Containers that still contain any liquids

Lighting types that the depot accepts & does not accept

Accepted: (All products must be generally clean and not contaminated.)

  • Fluorescent tubes

  • LED lights attached to a cord (XMAS type lights)

Not accepted:

  • CFL (Compact fluorescent light)

  • Household LED bulbs not attached to a cord

  • Incandescent bulbs

  • This service is not for contractors to dispose of old fluorescent tubes

  • Brushes, rags and rollers

  • Corrosive products

  • Industrial coatings -

  • Heat reactive coatings

  • High temperature coatings

  • Impacted-immersion coatings

  • Mastic coatings

  • Nuclear coatings

  • Quick dry coatings (primers, enamels)

  • Two-part or multi-component coatings requiring catalyzing reaction.

  • Rubber coatings

  • Thermoplastic rubber

  • Liquid rubber sealant

  • Tar-based and bituminous coatings

  • Bulging or leaking paint cans

  • Paint not stored in its original container

E-waste that the depot accepts & does not accept

Accepted: (All products must be generally clean and not contaminated.)

In general almost all electrical devices are eligible to be recycled.

  • The list of accepted items is very long and too comprehensive to list here.

  • See the full list of acceptable e-waste items at the following link.

Not accepted:

  • Any items that are not on the list at this link cannot be accepted at this facility.

Other products that the depot accepts & does not accept

Accepted:

(All products must be generally clean and not contaminated)

  • Used books

  • Used egg cartons

Not accepted:

  • Household hazardous waste is not accepted

  • Wood is not accepted

  • Furniture is not accepted

  • Tires are not accepted

  • Concrete products are not accepted

  • Grass clipping, trees, leaves, and branches are not accepted but can be taken to the City of Camrose landfill organics area composting area

  • Bottled gas containers are not accepted

  • Styrofoam and and plastics marked #3, 4, 6, and 7 are not accepted

  • Anything containing Freon or refrigerant

  • Appliances larger than a microwave

  • Organics of any kind are prohibited. You may be able to take your organics to the organics area of the landfill. See the City of Camrose page for more information

Household hazardous waste (HHW) is prohibited (instead take HHW to the bi-annual City HHW Roundup)

Not accepted:

  • We do not accept any household hazardous waste

  • It is unlawful to leave household hazardous waste at the Recycle with Centra Cam depot.

  • Household hazardous waste inludes the following and cannot be dropped off at the depot:

      • Oils and lubricants

      • Household cleaners like Windex

      • Coal Ash

      • Antifreeze

      • Chemical Strippers

      • Chlorine

      • Contact cement

      • Fire extinguishers

      • Asbestos products

      • Fuel

      • Poisons

      • Pesticides

      • Herbicides

      • Tires


Alternative:

The Camrose Regional Solid Waste Authority hosts a spring and fall household hazardous waste round-up each year in Camrose.

Camrose residents are invited to dispose of their household hazardous waste products at this event. Please call the City of Camrose at 780-672-4428 for more information or visit their website for more information.
